Krooked Chronicle Issue #1
It is already March and the 2002 wakeboarding season is rapidly approaching. There are a few things scheduled to go down in the next few months, so we put together this newsletter to make sure everyone knows about the upcoming events and activities in Louisiana.
New Season New Gear
April 20, 2002 - Bennett's Boat and Ski in Zachary, LA will be hosting a Hyperlite Demo Day. This will be a day of relaxing, chilling with your bros and riding at Louisiana's wakeboarding headquarters. Hyperlite representative Gary Morrison will be on site with all of the new 2002 Hyperlite Gear for you to test drive. There will be a nominal fee to try out the gear, but it will be well worth it. As a little bonus, Bennett's will drag everyone around their private lakes with a 2002 MasterCraft X-Star. So not only will you get to try out the newest gear from Hyperlite, you will also get a taste of the new MasterCraft X-Star wake. Times have not been slated yet, but keep checking krookedminds.com because you know we will keep you updated. This is an opportunity that you do not want to miss out on. We hope to see you there.
Louisiana's Own Spring Fling
UPDATE: As most of you probably already know, LSF 2002 will be held at Lazarre Point in West Monroe this year. This does not mean that LSF will not be any good; in fact it will be off the hizzle! LSF 2002 coordinator Jeff Sothworth, along with krookedminds, have been working hard to get LSF set up right this year. LSF has been a hit in the past but was still lacking some things that most other larger wakeboarding events have been providing. This year there will be LIVE MUSIC! The venue will also be a lot larger and will give us all an opportunity to hang in one centralized location with plenty of room to spare. Jeff has worked very hard to get a list of sponsors for LSF that looks more like a pro tour event. Most, if not all, of these sponsors will be at the event with product in hand. There will be ORGANIZED demo days, raffles, miles of butter to rip up and a cash money double up/kicker contest.
As of now, the pot for the contest has grown to almost 2000 bones!! How about leaving LSF with an extra two grand in your pocket? Due to insurance reasons, the entry fee will be around 40 dollars, but it is definitely worth a shot at two thousand dollars. So get ready to hit some double ups!
LSF is still scheduled to take place April 25 - 28 and once again has moved to Lazzare Point in West Monroe. For more information (hotels, restraints, etc.), you can check out krookedminds.com or contact Jeff South on lawakeboard.com. Once again, we look forward to seeing you there.
No More LA INT
Louisiana has untied the knot with the INT league this year and has formed the Louisiana Wakeboard Association. The LWA will be headed up again by Jeff and Robbie Southworth who did a fantastic job with the INT last season. So pick up your slalom ski because we are now wakeboarding only. The LWA will give us much more flexibility on how the events will be coordinated and on the rules and regulations. The LWA will also be able to give back to the riders more by having a lower registration fee and tournament fee. This will hopefully allow for more competitors to participate without having to crack open their piggy bank. For more information about the LWA and a complete schedule of events, you can check out krookedminds.com and lawakeboard.com.
Who's getting Krooked??
If you haven't noticed, krookedminds.com has exploded this off season and has tripled the number of visitors to the site. This number is increasing constantly and is expected to grow even larger as the 2002 season arrives. Also, krookedminds is still in the process of moving away from a "Wakeboard Team" and more into a "Wakeboard Club". Some details are still being worked out, but we are trying to come up with a plan to get everyone involved. If you have any suggestions on how we can accomplish this goal, please send them to dave@krookedminds.com. We would appreciate any help we can get. A few problems we have run into that we are not sure about are:
1. Should there be a membership fee?
2. Will anyone even pay a membership fee?
3. Does anyone even care about this stupid stuff?
4. Who moved my cheese?
We are trying hard to get everyone in Louisiana involved in Krookedminds one way or another. It may come down to where Krookedminds is just a wakeboarding website specifically to Louisiana or a Louisiana Wakeboarding Club. We are not sure how it is going to work yet, but as far as we are concerned, all of our visitors and supporters are part of the team. For a history lesson on Krookedminds Wakeboard Team and krookedminds.com (what it is, how it came about, etc.) just send an email message to dave@krookedminds.com with Getting Krooked 101 in the subject line. We hope to have everything finalized in the next month or so to make sure this 2002 season is the best Louisiana has ever seen.
