BJT Summer Tantrum Date Is Set
The dates for the BJT "Summer Tantrum" Memorial have been set for September 14 -15, 2002. The event will take place on "The Sandbar" down the Atachafalaya River in Morgan City, LA.
Event Info
The event will be a free ride event where everyone gets together to ride for a weekend and celebrate the life of our friend, Brandon Terry. Brandon is no longer with us due to a boating accident in the summer of 2000. The BJT "Summer Tantrum" Memorial is an annual event held in Morgan City in memory of Brandon.
Last year's event drew a larger crowd than we expected, so this year we decided to move the event to the river so that everyone will have enough room to ride. Also, "The Sandbar" will be the meeting place for everyone that would like to just pull up and hang out. We will also have sliders set up along the shores of the sandbar for everyone to hit (at their own risk). The sandbar is accessible only by boat, so you will want to get their early to make sure you have a ride out to the event site.
Directions To The Sandbar
In order to get to the sandbar, you will have to put your boat in the water at Russo's Boat Landing on Hwy 70 in Morgan City (across from Lake Palourde). This will also be a meeting place for anyone that will need to catch a ride out to the sandbar. Make a left out of the landing and head West. Flat Lake will be on your right.
* DO NOT GO INTO OR ACROSS FLAT LAKE DUE TO UNDERWATER PYLONS
Go past Flat Lake to the next opening. The opening will head North and this will be the Atchafalaya River. Make a right and head North in the opening. Proceed North and "The Sandbar" will be on your left.
The red line on the map below is the suggested path to the sandbar. Stay in the middle of the river and take wide turns around the bends. Also, look for red buoy markers around the bends and stay to the outside of those. This will keep you in the channel.
Hotel Information
There are three suggested hotels in Morgan City, but unfortunately we are not getting any special rates for the event. The information below will help you reserve a room for the weekend. All of the hotels are only minutes away from Russo's Boat Landing, but none of them are next to each other.

Camping
Due to the current West Nile Virus epidemic in Louisiana, we do not suggest camping. Although, if the epidemic starts to diminish as the event approaches, some people may want to camp out on the sandbar for the weekend. We will have to play this by ear and see how it goes.
